First of all, for those of you who don’t know, let me explain in a nutshell what CNET did . They basically ran a comparison test on a 2008 MacBook Pro using 64-bit versions of Windows 7 and Mac OS X Snow, to see which OS performed better. Turns out Snow Leopard was faster than Windows 7 on the MacBook Pro. There’s where it all started. I’ve been reading this story all morning in a number of blogs, no big deal. What really caught my attention is the comments from readers. Angry comments that i
Windows 7 is coming soon and we all have high expectations. Media have the chance to try the Windows 7 early, and they are comparing it with Mac OS X Snow Leopard. Snow Leopard does not have huge changes in the outlook, but it is improved in the inside with full 64bit support. There’s no question that Alienware’s M17x with dual-GPU system is one the most powerful — if not the most powerful — laptop out there right now, but at 15.4 pounds and a sub-two hour battery life, the definition of “laptop” is being stretched a bit here. A handful of reviews have hit the interwebs, and the none too startling consensus is you’ll be paying for the best here, especially with configuration options that can slot up to $5,000 — CNET Australia suggests looking at the ASUS W90 if you wa
If your programs are running slow because of not enough RAM, you could try boosting your existing RAM without having to install hardware. A free software program that I use on an older laptop (a 1995 that’s still running strong!) is called FreeRAM XP Pro . This freeware is highly recommended by the editors at CNet and Tucows . FreeRAM XP Pro’s AutoFree feature intelligently scales how much RAM is freed with your current system status, thus optimizing RAM without slowing down your comp
