Internet retail giants Amazon.com has unveiled Kindle, a $400 eBook reader — smaller, “lighter and thinner” than a paperback — that allows magazines, books and newspapers to be downloaded via its built-in wireless internet connection and be read on special “electronic paper”.
The revolutionary electronic paper display provides a sharp, high-resolution screen that looks and reads like real paper. The screen works “using ink, just like books and newspapers, but displays the ink particles electronically,” according to Amazon.
“Because it reflects light like ordinary paper and uses no backlight, it eliminates the eye strain and glare associated with other electronic displays such as computer monitors.”
But better than WiFi, Kindle utilizes the same high-speed data network (EVDO) as advanced cell phones‚Äîso you never have to locate a hotspot. So you can even surf in Singapore’s unstable WiFi environment! ;p Kindle’s wireless system means you can shop for reading material at the Kindle Store directly from your Kindle ‚Äî no matter where you are.
Just think: no need for a stack of magazines in the Men’s room. Just get a Kindle and download your toilet reading from over 90,000 publications!
But hold your horses: Kindle is not yet available in Singapore. And goodness knows when it will be launched here. But rest assured Techpresso will be there to review it once it’s near our shores.
Meanwhile, don’t unsubscribe from your favourite (toilet) magazine just yet!

Playing the much awaited Japanese RPG for the Xbox360 can be a pain in the ass especially when you are not trained in the Japanese language. Most of the times those who cannot wait to get into the RPG action goodness of Blue Dragon is left guessing what to do next and going online in hope that there is someone there to translate and guide us along to complete the game. I’ve got a friend who is stuck at disc 3 and has left the game there to rot because he is stuck and has no idea what the characters are talking about.
The Xbox 360 being touted for online play, I am suggesting that the developers provide this feature to us though Xbox live as a download content so that we can carry on enjoying the game in the English language. Especially for those who went out to purchase and support the game.
There is an online petition setup to ask Mistwalker Inc. to release one with English subs best yet let us download the subs through an update.
