According to Kotaku.com UMD movies are being pulled off the shelves by Target because of non-selling UMD titles. But titles will be moved and placed for sale on Target’s online store.

Sony has a history of fighting for standards, Betamax loss to the VHS for videocassette because of being a proprietary standard for tape recordings. Now that UMD is also a proprietary standard for portable hand helds Sony may once again be heading in the history of their Betamax ancestor. After owning a PSP for a couple of months, I kind of disliked the UMD format espicially then your handheld has moving parts, it harder not to worry if something will be damage during usage in busy areas like buses or trains.
