p2pnet news view | Products:- In August 1995 I queued to buy the newly-released Microsoft Window 95 from the PC World store in Ropemaker Street, near Moorgate in Central London and hurried off to install it on my desktop computer. It was hard to miss the launch. Microsoft had bought every advert in that day’s edition of The Times and even licensed the Rolling Stones song ‘Start Me Up’ to promote their brand-new operating system. I knew what Windows 95 looked like and had seen the Start bu
As you probably all know, Windows 7 was released yesterday to the public! As with any new operating system, there are new features and different ways of doing things. Windows 7 has some cool new features like Snap, which lets you compare two files side by side, Live Taskbar Previews, which lets you see all open windows for a program right from the taskbar, HomeGroup, which lets you easily share files and printers across multiple computers on a home network and AeroShake, which lets you organiz

eWeek: "Forty years ago, a new operating system called Unix was created, and a new revolution in computing began. Today, Unix-based operating systems still run many of the biggest and most important computing systems in the world. In fact, the core of Unix can be found in every major operating system in use today, from Apple's Mac OS X to Linux to, yes, even Windows. If Unix itself hadn't forked into many different versions, it might very well be the dominant OS in use today. In honor of the 40
As my colleague Ed Bott pointed out quite clearly, the vast majority of the new features in Apple’s new operating system, Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, are hardware dependent. So unless you are buying a brand new Mac for the start of college this academic year, the chances of you having full access to all the features are somewhat restricted. For $29 bucks you can upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6 and regardless of whether you have the hardware capabilities to run every feature, the software will stil
This fall will see the introduction of new operating system releases by the two major vendors in this space. For the first time in recent memory, Apple and Microsoft will go up against each other head to head with the newest versions of their platforms, released within weeks of each other. First up is Apple with Snow Leopard . Originally announced for a late September release, Apple surprised the market with an early ship date. Users will be able to pick up their copies starting on the 28th. Pr
Word from developers confirms what I had suspected: developers were as surprised as we were to learn Apple was shipping a new operating system on August 30. If you have to ask yourself whether you want to upgrade, then the simple answer is – don’t, not yet. And via Christopher Wimbrow on Twitter , here’s the first tool that we can confirm will outright break if you jump too soon – PreSonus hardware. From their forum, earlier today, PreSonus’ Nick Naqvi tells a user (unofficially): Right no

Snow Leopard will be released on August 28, and Intego's software is already compatible with the new operating system.
Snow Leopard coming early. _ Snow Leopard , the highly anticipated new operating system for the Mac , will be released ahead of schedule on Friday, Apple announced today.
